This page is for Pipe Fitter work at Dammam. The same trade is hired at other locations too — see below.
About the job
Pipe fitters are the largest group AKFAL mobilises for shutdowns. They read isometrics, measure and mark spools, fit flanged and butt-welded joints, and install supports on process and utility lines inside running plants. Precision and permit discipline matter as much as speed — a misaligned flange on a live unit is a stoppage.
What you will do
- Read isometric drawings and P&IDs; take field measurements
- Fit up spools, flanges, valves and fittings to alignment tolerance
- Bolt flanged joints to the torque sequence and record it
- Install pipe supports, hangers and guides to the drawing
- Work under permit in live plant areas with the client's HSE rules
What we look for
- 3 years or more fitting process or utility piping in an industrial plant
- Fluent with isometrics, spool drawings and flange tables
- Understands bolt torquing and gasket handling
- Fit for climbing and working at height on scaffolds
- Basic English or Arabic for permits
Certificates that help
- Pipe-fitting trade certificate
- Flange management / bolt torquing training
- Work-at-height and confined-space training
- Aramco or SABIC site induction, if held
Working in Dammam
Dammam and the Dammam–Khobar–Dhahran metro area hold the Second and Third Industrial Cities, King Abdulaziz Port, power and desalination plants, and the regional offices of the EPC and maintenance contractors AKFAL works with. The work is more varied than in Jubail: factory maintenance, warehousing and logistics, utilities and camp services alongside plant trades.
Plants and projects
- Dammam Second and Third Industrial Cities (MODON)
- King Abdulaziz Port and logistics zones
- Qurayyah and Ras Tanura power and refining sites nearby
- Saudi Aramco and contractor headquarters in Dhahran and Khobar
- Steel, pipe and fabrication factories
Typical work
- Factory maintenance: mechanical, electrical and instrumentation
- Warehouse and yard operations with forklifts and telehandlers
- Heavy transport between the port, Jubail and project sites
- Fabrication and coating work for regional projects
- When demand peaks
- Demand is steady through the year with peaks when Jubail and Ras Tanura shutdowns pull crews from the region.
- Accommodation and transport
- Crews are housed in AKFAL accommodation in Jubail or Dammam depending on the contract, with daily transport.
Questions applicants ask
Do I need experience?
Yes. Three or more years fitting piping in a refinery, petrochemical or utility plant. Construction-site experience with structural work alone is not enough for the process-piping test.
Which certificates do I need?
A trade certificate and flange-management training help. The practical test — reading an isometric and fitting a spool — is what decides.
Iqama, transfer and visa
Fitters already in Saudi Arabia with a transferable Iqama can be mobilised within days. Recruitment from abroad runs through licensed agencies at no cost to you.
Hours and shifts
Shutdown work runs in day and night shifts, typically ten to twelve hours with paid overtime. Between shutdowns fitters work regular days at the workshop or on maintenance contracts.
Where would I live in Dammam?
Crews are housed in AKFAL accommodation in Jubail or Dammam depending on the contract, with daily transport.
How is salary decided?
Pay is fixed per fitter from the trade test and experience, and written into the offer before you accept. Figures are not published.
