This page is for QA/QC Inspector work at Jubail. The same trade is hired at other locations too — see below.

About the job

QA/QC inspectors at AKFAL witness fit-up and welding, review welder qualifications and WPS/PQR packs, inspect coating and dimensions, and compile the quality dossier the client's QA department will ask for. They work with the client's inspectors, not against them: a rejection found by us costs an hour; one found by the client costs the contract.

What you will do

  • Witness fit-up, welding and NDT; review reports and mark up isometrics
  • Check WPS, PQR and welder qualification records before work starts
  • Inspect surface preparation and coating thickness with calibrated gauges
  • Verify dimensions against drawings and record on inspection reports
  • Compile quality dossiers and material certificates for handover

What we look for

  • 5 years or more in QA/QC on piping, structural or coating work
  • CSWIP 3.1 or AWS CWI for welding inspectors; NACE / BGAS for coating inspectors
  • Reads codes: ASME B31.3, ASME IX, AWS D1.1, client specifications
  • Strong written English for reports
  • Computer literacy for dossiers and registers

Certificates that help

  • CSWIP 3.1 / AWS CWI (welding)
  • NACE Level 2 or BGAS Grade 2 (coating)
  • NDT Level II in any method, a plus
  • Client QA/QC approval, if held

Working in Jubail

Jubail Industrial City is where AKFAL is based and where most of its crews work. The city holds the SABIC affiliates, Sadara, SATORP and dozens of petrochemical, fertiliser and steel plants, each with its own maintenance contractors and its own shutdown calendar. Crews live in AKFAL's camp nearby and reach site by company bus.

Plants and projects

  • SABIC affiliates (Petrokemya, Kayan, Sharq, Kemya, Hadeed and others)
  • Sadara Chemical Company
  • SATORP refinery (Aramco – TotalEnergies)
  • Sipchem, Tasnee, Advanced Petrochemical, Farabi
  • Marafiq utilities and the Jubail desalination plants
  • Amiral petrochemical complex (under construction)

Typical work

  • Maintenance contracts on rotating equipment
  • Piping fabrication and repair in the AKFAL workshop
  • Scaffolding, rigging and crane hire inside running plants
When demand peaks
Shutdowns cluster in spring and autumn, when plants take their planned outages; demand for welders, fitters and scaffolders peaks from February to April and from September to November.
Accommodation and transport
AKFAL's managed camp is within reach of Jubail Industrial City, with mess hall, laundry and daily buses to the plants.

Questions applicants ask

Do I need experience?

Yes — five or more years in quality inspection, plus a recognised certificate. This is a certified role, not a trade-test role.

Which certificates do I need?

CSWIP 3.1 or AWS CWI for welding, NACE or BGAS for coating. Without one of these the application cannot proceed.

Iqama, transfer and visa

Inspectors with a transferable Iqama first; overseas recruitment through licensed agencies with visa costs paid by AKFAL.

Hours and shifts

Day shifts on most contracts; shutdown inspection follows the welding crews' extended shifts with paid overtime.

Where would I live in Jubail?

AKFAL's managed camp is within reach of Jubail Industrial City, with mess hall, laundry and daily buses to the plants.

How is salary decided?

Set individually from certificates and experience and fixed in the written offer. Not published.
