This page is for Rigger work at Ras Al Khair. The same trade is hired at other locations too — see below.

About the job

Riggers at AKFAL plan and execute lifts with the rental fleet's cranes and on client shutdowns: selecting slings and shackles, calculating loads, signalling the operator and controlling the exclusion zone. A rigger who cannot show the lift plan is not sent to site — lifting is where the client's HSE team looks hardest.

What you will do

  • Select and inspect slings, shackles, spreader bars and tackle
  • Calculate load weight and centre of gravity; prepare the lift plan with the supervisor
  • Signal the crane operator with standard hand and radio signals
  • Control the lifting zone and tag lines
  • Keep the rigging register and tag defective gear out of service

What we look for

  • 3 years or more as a rigger on industrial or construction sites
  • Rigger certificate (level II or III) from a recognised body
  • Reads lift plans and load charts
  • Physically fit for work at height
  • Basic English or Arabic for radio signalling

Certificates that help

  • Rigger Level II / III certificate
  • Aramco rigger certification, if held
  • Work-at-height training
  • Banksman / signaller training

Working in Ras Al Khair

Ras Al Khair, 80 km north of Jubail, is Ma'aden's industrial city: phosphate and ammonia plants, the aluminium smelter and rolling mill, the desalination and power complex and the shipyard. It is heavy industry with long maintenance campaigns and a steady need for mechanical, electrical and rigging trades. AKFAL crews commute from the Jubail camp.

Plants and projects

  • Ma'aden Phosphate and Ma'aden Wa'ad Al Shamal (ammonia, phosphoric acid, DAP)
  • Ma'aden Aluminium smelter, rolling mill and casthouse
  • Ras Al Khair power and desalination complex (SWCC)
  • International Maritime Industries shipyard
  • Port and bulk-handling terminals

Typical work

  • Planned maintenance on kilns, mills and conveyors
  • Electrical and instrumentation maintenance in the smelter
  • Structural and piping repairs; heavy rigging
  • Crane and telehandler hire for maintenance campaigns
When demand peaks
Ma'aden's maintenance campaigns run through the year with larger turnarounds in the cooler months; demand is steadier than in Jubail's shutdown peaks.
Accommodation and transport
Crews are housed in the AKFAL camp near Jubail and travel by company bus, about an hour each way; site camps are used on longer campaigns.

Questions applicants ask

Do I need experience?

Yes — three or more years rigging on industrial sites, with a certificate. Uncertified labour experience around cranes does not qualify.

Which certificates do I need?

A rigger certificate from a recognised body is required. An Aramco rigger card is the most valuable version for plant work in the Eastern Province.

Iqama, transfer and visa

Riggers already in the Kingdom with a transferable Iqama are mobilised first; overseas hiring runs through licensed agencies with no fee to you.

Hours and shifts

Follows the crane and shutdown schedule: day shifts normally, extended shifts with paid overtime during turnarounds.

Where would I live in Ras Al Khair?

Crews are housed in the AKFAL camp near Jubail and travel by company bus, about an hour each way; site camps are used on longer campaigns.

How is salary decided?

Set from certificate level and experience, confirmed in the written offer. Not published.
