This page is for Mechanical Fitter / Millwright work at Jafurah. The same trade is hired at other locations too — see below.
About the job
AKFAL mechanical fitters install, dismantle and reassemble pumps, motors, gearboxes, exchangers and valves in petrochemical and power plants. On shutdowns they open exchangers, pull bundles, change bearings and seals and close everything to torque; between shutdowns they run preventive maintenance under the Mechanical Division's engineers.
What you will do
- Dismantle, inspect and reassemble pumps, gearboxes and valves
- Replace bearings, mechanical seals, couplings and gaskets
- Align shafts with dial gauges or laser tools under the engineer's supervision
- Open and close heat exchangers and vessels to the torque procedure
- Record clearances and readings on the job card
What we look for
- 3 years or more as a mechanical fitter in plant maintenance or shutdowns
- Hands-on with bearings, seals, couplings and alignment
- Reads mechanical drawings and manufacturer manuals
- Uses torque tools, pullers and precision measuring instruments
- Basic English or Arabic for permits and job cards
Certificates that help
- Mechanical fitting / millwright trade certificate
- Shaft alignment training (dial or laser)
- Confined-space training
- Client site induction, if held
Working in Jafurah
The Jafurah gas field, south-east of Al-Ahsa, is being developed in phases by Saudi Aramco with international EPC contractors. It is a construction environment rather than a running plant: gas processing trains, pipelines, compression and utilities being built at the same time, which means sustained demand for welders, pipe fitters, riggers, scaffolders, electricians and certified operators over several years.
Plants and projects
- Jafurah gas processing plant and compression facilities
- Field gathering pipelines and well sites
- Utilities, power and water infrastructure for the field
- EPC contractor camps and laydown yards
Typical work
- Construction crews for piping, structural and electrical scopes
- Pre-commissioning and commissioning support
- Crane, telehandler and heavy-transport hire to EPC contractors
- Camp and catering services for project workforces
- When demand peaks
- Project phases set the demand rather than plant shutdowns; mobilisation runs in waves as each package moves from civil to mechanical to commissioning.
- Accommodation and transport
- Workforces live in project camps at the field; AKFAL mobilises crews from Jubail with transport and accommodation arranged under the contract.
Questions applicants ask
Do I need experience?
Yes — three or more years maintaining plant equipment. Fitters from workshops or the automotive trade may apply, but the test covers plant equipment: pumps, seals and alignment.
Which certificates do I need?
A trade certificate and alignment training help. Millwrights with laser-alignment or vibration exposure are placed into the Mechanical Division's specialist crews.
Iqama, transfer and visa
Fitters with a transferable Iqama are mobilised fastest. Overseas recruitment runs through licensed agencies, at no cost to the applicant.
Hours and shifts
Maintenance contracts run day shifts; shutdowns run extended day and night shifts with paid overtime.
Where would I live in Jafurah?
Workforces live in project camps at the field; AKFAL mobilises crews from Jubail with transport and accommodation arranged under the contract.
How is salary decided?
Set by the trade test and experience and confirmed in the written offer. Figures are not published.
